I am a professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary. My participation in a scholars' working group at the Center for Jewish History, along with Adam Shear (University of Pittsburgh) and Josh Teplitsky (Oxford University), on the history of the Jewish book prompted us to think about how to fill the gap in this field regarding how Jewish books circulated during the early modern period. We believe that using recent technological advances we can best track the path of Jewish books throughout Europe and make important research information available to a wider net of scholars interested in this area of research.
